We share stories that build better communities: Here’s George Mason on community partnerships for nutrition

This summer, our publishing house staff is honored to report that many of our authors are out there in the world, both in the U.S. and in other parts of the world, encouraging resiliency and peacemaking. This week, we just saw David Gushee’s autumn speaking schedule that will crisscross the U.S. and Europe. Last week, we shared an inspiring profile of mystery writer Laura Elizabeth‘s efforts to save a historic landmark on her beloved Daufuskie Island.
This week, we’ve also got the debut of a new video podcast from the Rev. Dr. George A. Mason in Dallas, Texas, produced via George’s nonprofit Faith Commons, a Dallas-based, inclusive-faith organization committed to promoting the common good.
This episode is the first in a series “More Than Food for Thought: Community-Based Solutions to Hunger in South Dallas.” In it, George introduces us to Joey Darwin, Executive Director of Bridge Builders and the group’s South Dallas Community Market. Together, they explore what a grocery store would look like if the neighbors who shop there got to say what they needed and wanted. In partnership with Brother Bill’s Helping Hand, that’s exactly what this market does; it offers nutritious food chosen by clients right in the community of South Dallas. BridgeBuilders engages, equips, and empowers individuals, families, and communities in South Dallas. https://bridgebuilders.org/
Community-building ideas also are a core theme in George’s new book, The Word Made Fresh: Preaching God’s Love for Every Body.
