Two New Books in the ’30 Days With’ Series

Click the cover to visit the book’s Amazon page.

We are adding two new books to this popular series, which started with Thirty Days with Abraham Lincoln and Thirty Days with King David.

As 2022 opens, we will be adding Thirty Days with America’s High School Coaches and Thirty Days with E. Stanley Jones. Each book provides readers with a month of daily inspiration and reflection.

The full title of the book (displayed at right) is: Thirty Days with America’s High School Coaches: True stories of successful coaches using imagination and a strong internal compass to shape tomorrow’s leaders by Martin A. Davis, Jr.

High school coaches shape millions of lives. These 30 short and inspiring stories show the diversity of approaches by coaches in building athletes’ hearts, minds and bodies to form successful teams and future leaders. The coaches profiled in this book come from every corner of the nation, every socio-economic setting and a wide variety of sports. These true stories show how they combine imagination, a selfless commitment to their athletes and a strong internal compass to help shape tomorrow’s leaders.

Thirty Days with America’s High School Coaches is available for pre-sale now and will be published on January 25, 2022.

The full title of the next book in the series is: Thirty Days With E. Stanley Jones: Global Preacher, Social Justice Prophet by the Rev. Dr. John E. Harnish.

This book will surprise readers who think they know the history of faith and peacemaking. In fact, as he organized the true stories in this book, Harnish started with that very question: Does a preacher from the previous century have anything to say today?

The answer you’ll reach after reading this book is: Yes!

E. Stanley Jones’ clarion call to justice and loving community was shaped by his friendship with Mahatma Gandhi and influenced the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Harnish chose 30 highlights from this spiritually heroic life to illustrate the timeless, loving wisdom that Jones saw at the core of Christianity. The book comes with a discussion guide and video introductions by the author for small groups who will want to discuss this book.

Thirty Days with E. Stanley Jones is available for pre-sale now and will be published February 15, 2022.

Torah Tutor by Rabbi Lenore Bohm

Also in early 2022, we are pleased to publish another major perspective on the relevance of faith in today’s world: Torah Tutor.

This book was written by Rabbi Lenore Bohm, who began her career among the first wave of women ever ordained as rabbis. Drawing on a lifetime of teaching the Torah to groups of adults, Bohm divides her book into the 54 portions read each year from the Torah, which are the first five books of the Hebrew Bible.

This is a perfect book for individual reading or small group discussion.

Rabbi Jack Riemer—author of Finding God in Unexpected Places—was one of the early reviewers of Bohm’s manuscript. He adds a glowing endorsements:

Rabbi Bohm’s book is indeed a treasure—both for those who think that they know the Torah already and for those who have never studied at a grownup level before. It will open your mind to some of the questions that the Torah asks of us as well as to some of the questions that we should ask when we confront the Bible. I promise you that this is a book that you will find well worth reading—and that you will want to reread many times.

Shining Brightly by Howard Brown

We also will be publishing an inspiring—sometimes suspenseful, sometimes funny and often heart-warming—memoir by Silicon Valley entrepreneur, interfaith peacemaker and cancer survivor Howard Brown. Organized into 18 true stories from Howard’s amazing life, readers will discover wisdom about the high-risk-and-high-reward life of an American entrepreneur, practical advice about coping with life-threatening cancer and also wisdom about building relationships with men and women from other cultures and faiths around the world.

The book comes with questions for reflection, a discussion guide and links to online videos.

The best-selling psychologist and expert on resilience Dr. Robert J. Wicks wrote the book’s Foreword, which includes:

From the opening story in Shining Brightly there are teachings that are both simple and difficult. Filled with tradition and insight, Howard Brown shares stories not only about the persons he describes but, upon reflection, about ourselves and our stories of life.
