And I promise: This (free) news service is not all grim!
I’m a retirement expert who discovered that millions of Americans—including a lot of people you and I care about—are not going to be able to retire.
That’s a truly life-changing realization. I know it sounds startling, but it’s true.
Because I’ve always had boundless curiosity about the inner workings of our financial and social systems—and because I have a conscience that won’t let me simply ignore what I’ve found—I wrote an upcoming book, The Future Poor: How Families and Communities Can Join Together to Survive the Looming Retirement Crisis.
That title pretty much captures who I am and why I’m doing all of this extra work now. I don’t want to live in a world where our loved ones and friends are living below the poverty level in their “retirement years.” Plus, I can clearly see ways we can work together to avoid that. The solutions I outline in my book include valuable insights for our families, communities and congregations. Soon, you’ll be able to pre-order my book from Amazon.
So, what about right now?
Right now, I’m starting on the daily work of helping Americans to be much better informed about these systems—financial, social and cultural—that have produced this looming crisis. I am a well-respected Licensed Financial Advisor in California and, after decades in this field, my consulting time is valuable. But, because this truly is a vocational issue for me, I’m simply giving away daily doses of news and commentary that, over time, should be helpful for all of us. In fact, I’m choosing news items for this new emailed news service that are so intriguing that you’ll want to share them across social media yourself so your friends can join you.
How do I know this idea is catchy? I’m a father and my own son has volunteered to pitch in. Once a week in the newly launched Grimm News, my son will appear in one of the news items, explaining some nugget of helpful information that lots of adults simply haven’t considered. Rome and I figure: If a kid can “get it,” then we all can get it.
Here’s the call to action: Visit my website and sign up for the free Grimm News
It’s a simple address: https://www.thefuturepoor.com/ I kept it simple so you can easily remember it and tell friends and family to come visit me and get these free—and valuable—and fun—news nuggets by email.
If you’re telling people about this, emphasize—you know—the “valuable” and “fun” part of this. That’s my aim! And, if you ever feel I’m straying from those goals, just let me know as a reader.
Please don’t worry about signing up for—I know—yet another email news service. Mine is free. And The Grimm News is easy to cancel, if you want. I doubt you will because I plan to keep this so interesting that you’ll look forward to these little items dropping into your inbox a couple of times each week.
Here are some recent columns so you can catch up with the rest of our growing audience:
“Lower Drug Costs for Seniors” In this news item, I very briefly explain the latest step in federal negotiations to lower drug costs—and I add a valuable link to read more about this from the original source material, if you care to do so. You can get the main point of this news item in just a minute of reading time.
“U.S. Drops Out of the Top 20” Here’s a truly “grim” news item, and it’s important evidence of the basic assumption in my upcoming book. The “Top 20” is a worldwide list of countries ranked by how well they take care of retirees. You’re probably thinking: As Americans, we’re out of the Top 20 now? Yikes! But remember, my own work—and upcoming book—focuses on the good news of what we can do to address that looming crisis. And also note: This Grimm News headline story is very brief! And, yes, I also include a valuable link to read the original source material about the Top 20, if you care to do so.
Getting the idea?
Grimm News is short. Timely. Valuable. Focused on helping you get the information you won’t find elsewhere.
And fun?
My son Rome and I are in the process of chopping up a lifetime of financial learning into 90-second nuggets that even a kid like Rome can understand. (Well, Rome’s pretty bright and I’m a proud father, etc., etc., but you get the point.) So, my third “sample” in this column is a suggestion to check out a recent Rome Teaches Money episode from Grimm News.
