In Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re publicly sharing a special reader-resource page

Mental Health Awareness Month started in 1949—77 years ago in 2026—but the “green ribbon” symbol is only several decades old. Some sources say the green color was chosen as a reminder of springtime growth and renewal. Other sources recall that green was often a color associated with the interiors of traditional mental health facilities, so wearing a green ribbon became an intentional way to show new hope and acceptance for people who once were marginalized.

The 2026 Theme Is ‘See the Person. Support the Journey.’

As a publishing house, our motto—”Good media builds healthy communities”—means that we’re lifting up the values of Mental Health Awareness Month all year ’round in many of our books that explore pathways to health and wellbeing. But, this year, we also are updating a special page we will include in upcoming books that touch on trauma and mental health. We are describing the page as offering “emergency resources and crisis support.” The page, as published, will be headlined in keeping with such lists of resources that are shared by nonprofits, healthcare agencies and other social-service organizations: “If You or Someone You Know Needs Help.”

We have been including some of these resources in books for many years, but this page represents a more extensive listing and now becomes a standing feature that we can include in upcoming books, when those authors are addressing readers facing these crises.

The first of our books to include this page will be the upcoming memoir of Dr. Dora Dixie, who is nationally known for her work in helping individuals and families overcome chronic addiction and patterns of trauma. If you’re interested in that book—then, please, sign up for free email updates from Front Edge Publishing to ensure that you get updates about her memoir, titled God Lives in Mississippi. There’s a convenient link to “Sign me up!” for free updates on the front page of this website.

Care to learn more?

Since our founding two decades ago, we have published many books that explore mental health issues. Among the best-selling titles you can find from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart and other sellers of quality books are:

Light Shines in the Darkness: My Healing Journey Through Sexual Abuse and Depression by Lucille F. Sider. In this memoir, clinical psychologist and clergywoman Lucille F. Sider tells her inspiring story of resilience and hope as a survivor of sexual abuse. She explains the challenges of finding her way out of a fear-based spirituality into one that is full of grace, hope and forgiveness.

A Guide for Caregivers by Benjamin Pratt. This is one of the most important books we’ve published—especially because the latest data from AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving shows a rapidly evolving caregiving landscape that now includes 63 million Americans, a nearly 50% increase since 2015. That means 1 in 4 Americans is serving as a caregiver!

Now What? A Guide to the Gifts and Challenges of Aging was produced by a wide range of experts in cooperation with Area Agencies on Aging. In this book, experts provide practical advice, including how to form a caregiving team, ensure home and online safety, maintain mobility and support independence.

Telling Stories in the Dark: Finding healing and hope in sharing our sadness, grief, trauma, and pain by Jeff Munroe. Each chapter in this unique book, published by our friends at Reformed Journal Books, explores a different form of trauma. Then, after each true story, Jeff Munroe invites a nationally known expert to respond with helpful insights.

Holding on in the Storm: Biblical wisdom for courage and guidance through sickness, suffering, death, and grief by Bob Cutillo, MD. Whether you are walking through a season of loss or walking alongside someone who is, Holding on in the Storm by Dr. Bob Cutillo offers courage, comfort, and a deeply grounded biblical hope that speaks to the hardest parts of life.

Healing a Shattered Soul: My Faithful Journey of Courageous Kindness after the Trauma and Grief of Domestic Terrorism by Mindy Corporon. In this inspiring memoir, Corporon invites readers to join her search for inspiration and hope after domestic terrorism took the lives of her father and son. A popular speaker, teacher and writer, Mindy has dedicated her life to encouraging kindness, faith and healing in congregations, companies and communities. And, please stay tuned to Front Edge Publishing for Mindy’s upcoming book, a resource guide titled Grief Leadership, coming in mid 2026.

And here are even more resources for this special month

Here’s a link to the main “home page” for Mental Health Awareness Month from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This page includes links to SAMHSA’s “toolkit” for promoting awareness. Those tools include a 5-page, detailed resource guide for “faith communities.
